Sailaway Port Douglas – World’s First E Tender Glass Bottom Boat

Sailaway-turtle-Credit-Sailaway-Newsletter-1500x830

Advanced Eco accredited and Climate Action leader Sailaway Port Douglas, has introduced the world’s first E Tender Glass Bottom Boat, named “Off Grid – On Reef,” marking a significant leap in eco-tourism innovation. Designed with Torqeedo technology, the boat offers quiet and non-intrusive tours for observing marine life, particularly turtles, while meeting rigorous AMSA safety standards.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Murray River Trails
Location:  Paringa, South Australia

Murray River trail

Our partners at Murray River Trails offer guided access to the remote parts of the Murray River featuring a multiday walking tour and a safari tour with kayaking. Both tours feature the region’s beautiful landscapes, diverse wildlife and luxury houseboat accommodation.

Owner Tony Sharley is an Environmental Scientist and a river champion, and the concept of their Advanced Ecotourism Certified operation was born following a severe drought in the area. He wanted to help diversify the regional economy by giving back to the river through regenerative tourism.

In designing the touring routes several sustainability measures were implemented including a natural “on animal tracks” walking route instead of a constructed physical trail. Small group tours leave a small footprint, and the luxury houseboat ‘High River’ comfortably hosts up to 10 people. The boat operates on renewable energy from 52 solar panels eliminating the need for a noisy diesel generator. Superb locally grown food and wines are served aboard.

We especially love this experience because couples with varying fitness levels can both enjoy the Murray River.  Less active partners can spend the day cruising on the houseboat while more active partners explore the walking trail or safari route, returning to the houseboat for the evenings.

Describe Silky Oaks Lodge in 3 words.

Relax, Rejuvenate, Explore.

Tell us a little bit about Silky Oaks Lodge and what makes it so unique beyond great food, great wine and a very comfortable place to sleep?

Silky Oaks Lodge offers a luxury experience from which to explore Tropical North Queensland, situated only 20minutes north of Port Douglas. It boarders the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest National Park and is spectacularly perched above the Mossman River. Surrounded by the lush rainforest, this luxury eco lodge is the ideal location to appreciate the natural tropical environment.

How is Silky Oaks Lodge pushing the boundaries in guest experiences?

We understand that all guest’s needs and requirements are different, so prior to the guest arrival, we try and obtain as much information as possible about them so we can tailor individual and personalised touches for all guests. These special touches may be in the form of the location of the room ie. if a guest has a walking difficulty, we will try and allocate a Treehouse as close to the Main Lodge as possible, even if this means we need to upgrade them. We strive to exceed guest expectations at all times and this may be achieved by special touches in the guest rooms such as fresh flowers on arrival, local teas in the room upon turndown, mood music playing upon arrival and during turndown, acknowledging all guests by their names.
